There be elephants here… and a bazillion border crossings

IMG_0343elephantsA day late; yesterday was petty grueling with all manner of “nuisance” border crossings out in the middle of nowhere. Well not nowhere exactly, but some oddly-place line that represents the boundary between one country and another, and in order to drive anywhere in a reasonably-direct path will involve dealing with zig-zag boundaries and border stations that can only be reached by boat first and then you trek half a mile through dirt which became mud when it suddenly began to rain. A bit surrealistic to say the least! But we eventually made it to the Zambezi Queen, where we’d spend two nights on a super-houseboat (they call it a houseboat as if that’s a prestigious thing, but it’s actually a floating hotel).

I’ve got a ton of photos to go through after a game drive (actually done via small boat) yesterday afternoon and another game drive (again on a small boat) this morning. I’ll try to catch up sometime tomorrow, after we fly to Johannesburg. Suffice it to say I’ve got some pretty cool video of dueling Water Monitor Lizards, a lot of bird shots, a lot of elephants, a few impalas (none intentionally; they’re a dime a dozen here), buffalo, warthogs, but… no lions. Looks like we won’t be seeing any lions this trip!
