It can’t really be 42 years since Vanishing Point came out. Can it?

The blind all-seeing guide in Vanishing Point

The original Vanishing Point, not the remake, was one of those odd movies that left a real impression on me. Tough to figure out why an existential car chase movie would have that effect, since I’ve never been a car nut, and this movie’s 1970 Dodge Challenger was the stuff of dreams for many. But cars aside, there was the existential aspect, the blind DJ helping the driver through the desert, the woman riding the motorcycle… it was quite the movie for the over-thinking 16 year old that was me when it came out.

I can watch that movie again and again and still see things I didn’t notice before. And the photography… it makes the desert look spectacular.
